Charles Edward Johnson, R.I., R.O.I.

Charles Johnson, a member of the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolours and the Institute of Oil Painters (RI, ROI), was born in Stockport and studied at the Royal Academy Schools. Began his painting career in Edinburgh and moved to London in 1864. He ran a successful school for landscape painting at Richmond, Surrey, and exhibited at the Royal Academy, the British Institute, Sussex Street Gallery and other leading London galleries. His paintings are included in the Tate Gallery collection and numerous provincial galleries both in the UK and internationally.
